Tax Identification Number (INN) Requirement for Financial Services

Foreigners planning to stay longer than a month and open a Russian bank account must obtain a Tax Identification Number (INN). The INN is issued by the Federal Tax Service after registration at the local migration office (MFC). It is required for opening a non‑resident account, applying for a credit card, or receiving salary payments from a Russian employer. The application process takes 3‑7 business days and costs a nominal fee. Without an INN, many financial services remain inaccessible.
